Like all medicines, cialis (tadalafil) may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. We’ll look at what to look out for when you’re on the pill, and where to look for them, as well as how to take them safely.
Some of the most common side effects of this medication include:
These are not all of the more common side effects of this medicine. If you experience any of these side effects, please reach out to your doctor for advice.
Common side effects include:
Before you start taking cialis, make sure your doctor knows:
We’ve got you covered.
Cialis, tadalafil, and similar medications come in different strengths, such as 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. The standard dose for oral use is 5mg taken every other day at the same time. This is because your body needs more blood to pump into the penis to achieve an erection.
Your doctor will determine the correct strength of cialis for you depending on your age and medical condition.
Cialis is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient tadalafil. Cialis is a PDE5 inhibitor, and it works by increasing the amount of blood that is taken in a certain way.
When you take Cialis, it will take effect within 30 to 60 minutes of taking the tablet. This effect can last up to 36 hours. You can take this medicine with or without food.
This medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It’s also used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in women. It’s also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in men.
Cialis can also be used to treat BPH in men. This medication is not available over the counter and is only prescribed by a doctor.
Like all medicines, Cialis may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects of this medication include:
These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own. If you experience any severe side effects such as sudden vision loss, hearing loss, chest pain, trouble breathing, or a fast heartbeat, please contact your doctor immediately.
Cialis (tadalafil) is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient tadalafil. The recommended dose for oral use is 5mg taken before sexual activity. This can be increased to 10mg or decreased to 5mg. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day.
Most men taking tadalafil do not experience side effects. If you experience side effects such as headaches, facial flushing, nasal congestion, indigestion, and back pain, you should contact your doctor for advice.
1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
Tadalafil belongs to the group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitors, primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Erectile dysfunction is the inability to keep a hard and erect penis suitable for sexual activity. Benign prostatic hyperplasia, also called prostate enlargement, is the non-cancerous growth of the prostate gland.
Tadalafil contains ‘Tadalafil’, which works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis; this allows the blood to flow into the penis when the person is sexually excited. Thereby, it helps to treat erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil relaxes the bladder and prostate muscles, thereby reducing enlarged prostate symptoms such as difficulty in urination and urgent need to urinate.
You are advised to take Tadalafil for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects, such as headache, back pain, muscle pain, pain in the legs and arms, nasal congestion, indigestion, and facial flushing. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Do not take Tadalafil if you are taking nitrates (used to treat angina), riociguat (used to treat pulmonary hypertension) or alpha-blockers; if you have heart problems or stroke, low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure. Tadalafil is not intended for use in women. Tadalafil may cause dizziness, so drive with caution. Avoid consuming alcohol as it might cause increased dizziness. Tadalafil should not be given to children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and the medicines you are taking to avoid unpleasant side effects.
Read the leaflet provided with this medicine for further information. If you are taking any other medicines, please consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Tadalafil should not be taken if you are allergic to it or any of the ingredients. It is important to take this medicine along with your regularly. Check your daily routine, or your doctor told you to before you take this medicine advise you on regular exercise, and to avoid taking Tadalafil if you are also taking nitrates (used to treat angina). Nitrates are a class of medicines called ‘ureas containing’ used to relieve angina. This medicine can cause sudden and serious side effects, including chest pain, difficulty in breathing, pain in the legs and arms, nausea, fluid retention, severe dizziness, and kidney problems.
If you are taking any other medications, including any other medications you are taking, or have recently taken, including supplements, please inform your doctor as the medicine you are taking will interfere with your medicine. Some ingredients in this medicine are used to treat erectile dysfunction. It is important that you follow your doctor's recommendations as the medicine you are taking may interact with your medicine. Some medications have the potential to cause side effects, and your doctor will be able to help manage them. Some supplements or medications you are taking may have the potential to cause dizziness or get lightheaded, so drive with caution. Avoid drinking alcohol as it might cause increased dizziness and lightheadedness. Tadalafil should not be used if you are taking other medications that may affect the way this medicine works, as the medicine may cause side effects, including headache, nausea, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, and dizziness. Other medications or treatments you are taking may affect the way Cialis works, and your doctor will be able to help manage these side effects.
